Save the Date!

Having our young people leave for college is never easy, but it is especially difficult this year as we have eleven seniors leaving us for college. We will have a special Senior Sending Forth on August 13th at the 10:30 service to say "best of luck" to these special people and to wish them all the best in this exciting new chapter of their lives.

Starbucks Sunday

On Sunday, June 4, the day of Pentecost is also known as the birthday of the church. It celebrates when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples and helped them reach out to all peoples. In order to celebrate this more fully, we have a few special suprises including an inter-generational kite flying event at 9:30 a.m. and complimentary Starbucks coffee for everyone who comes to church. See you there!

DaVinci Code!

I cannot wait to be sitting in the movie theatre with a jumbo tub of popcorn and a gallon of diet soda watching a movie that has, as one of its central themes, a question about Jesus and the incarnation. How lucky am I? But, it is fiction. Like all great thrillers it has just enough truth to keep you glued to your chair and scratching your head.

On Monday, May 22 we will meet at the Cheesecake Factory for lunch at 11:30 a.m. and then go see the DaVinci Code. The discussion will be held after chapel service on Wednesday, May 24 at 8 p.m. so that we can give folks who can't see it during the day a chance to view it and talk.

If anyone would like to schedule a private time to talk about the movie, please feel free to call the office and make an appointment.

2,000 Hits!

Well, it's official. Sometime early this week we reached the milestone of two thousand hits on our blog. Technology still feels like a miracle to me. . . I remeber the fax machine being introduced, the answering machine, the personal computer. Of course I also had an 8 track tape player and someone must have bought those beta tapes instead of VHS. All in all, I think technolgy is a wonderful gift and I am all in favor of anything that helps us stay in touch. So praise be to God for the blog!

Easter Vigil Prayer

The Mission & Finance committee requested a copy of the prayer that we used at the Easter Vigil. I borrowed shamefully from the Collect in the Book of Common Prayer to create this litany.

Let us pray.

O God, through your Son you have bestowed upon your people the brightness of your light:

Help us to be bearers of that light.

We remember all those who have come before us as witnesses to Christ’s light, especially Christopher, Bill, Susan, Herbert, Bubbles and all those saints who rest in this sacred place:

Help us to honor the faith of our fathers and mothers in spirit and truth.

Sanctify this cross that it will lead us into your truth:

Sanctify our hearts that we may follow where that truth may lead us

Sanctify this new fire, of new life

May we burn with heavenly desires

May we attain to the festival of everlasting light

Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Room H: Conference Room

People never cease to amaze me. Everybody was so polite yesterday, nobody asked about a large sign of Room H that says "Building Users Can No Longer Use this Room" or about the fact that all of the furniture has been removed. Bev's son Malcom has donated conference room furniture (a large table, credenza, chairs and official looking office stuff) and we will be moving it into Room H by next week. The Room will only be used for parish activities -- adult education, book studies, vestry meetings, and committee meetings -- so that it will stay beautiful for years to come. Special thanks to Malcolm and to Bev for raising such nice children (all ten of them).
